The Ultimus Process Prioritizer

The Ultimus Process Prioritizer is an MS Excel-based tool which uses a systematic approach for selecting and prioritizing processes for automation and improvement using BPM.

Organizations considering their first deployment of BPM are often faced with the challenge of deciding which process or processes to begin with, or which to deploy next, in the face of myriad potential candidates. Their choice is complicated for organizations that do not have prior BPM experience. It is important for them to select the right first process for automation to increase the chances of success. If chosen wisely, the success of the first process can greatly facilitate the widespread adoption of BPM in the organization.

The Prioritizer allows a BPM sponsor to prioritize their automation goals and to rank the suitability of individual processes for their organization, based on criteria in five categories.

  • Priorities of your organization’s BPM Sponsor

  • Suitability of the identified processes to be automated

  • The technical feasibility of automating each selected process

  • Is automating each process conducive to the human environment of the organization

  • Is automation of each process aligned with the priorities of the BPM Sponsors

(Documentation included with the Prioritizer offers an explanation of each of the above.)

The result of the Process Prioritizer is a list of comparative scores for each of your processes.  A higher score indicates that your organization is likely to benefit more from automation of that process.

When you rank a proposed process in each of these categories, the Prioritizer calculates a Business Process Priority Index for each process.  The higher index, relative to the other processes measured, indicates a process more likely to benefit your organization.

Results should always be tempered with your judgment.  The Prioritizer is not a replacement for a Discovery Workshop, which considers many additional factors.
