NCTA Announces Finalists for 2006 NCTA 21 Awards |
RALEIGH, N.C. (October 19, 2006) – The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, today announced the finalists for the 2006 NCTA 21 Awards. Winners will be revealed at the annual awards gala on November 9, 2006 at the Embassy Suites in Cary, N.C.
The awards are presented by NCTA in conjunction with Grant Thornton, a leading accounting, tax and business advisory firm. Finalists are selected by Grant Thornton and past chairpersons from the NCTA Board of Directors. The theme for this year’s event is “Renaissance: Invention to Opportunity” and will celebrate the renewed spirit of innovation in North Carolina.
“Selecting finalists from what became the largest and most impressive list of nominees in NCTA 21 awards program’s history was a difficult task,” said Joan Myers, president and chief executive officer of NCTA. “I look forward to the awards gala so we can celebrate not only the finalists but all the companies and individuals who are driving the knowledge economy in North Carolina.”
The NCTA 21 Awards recognize outstanding contributions that companies and individuals in North Carolina have made over the past year to the industry, community and state. The awards are grouped in five categories: technology industry awards, stage of development awards, functional awards, leadership awards and excellence awards.
Communications Company of the Year: Hatteras Networks, Madison River Communication, Overture Networks, Inc. and Tekelec
Consumer Technology Company of the Year: Dell Inc., goodmortgage.com, LED Lighting Fixtures, Inc. and Lenovo
Corporate Citizenship Award: Capitol Broadcasting Company, Credit Suisse First Boston, Drake Software and GlaxoSmithKline

Early Stage Company of the Year: Affinergy, Inc., LED Lighting Fixtures, Inc. and rPath

Healthcare/Pharmaceutical Company of the Year: GlaxoSmithKline, Misys Healthcare Systems, Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. and Scynexis, Inc.
IT Support Services Award: Hutchinson Law Group PLLC, Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, L.L.P. and Square 1 Bank
Large Company of the Year: Lenovo, Network Appliance, Inc. and Parata Systems

Top Venture Capital Invested Company of the Year: Biolex Therapeutics, Motricity, Serenex, Inc. and Tranzyme Pharma
Individual Awards: NCTA will also present three individual awards in the following categories: Outstanding Achievement Award, NCTA Volunteer, and Public Leadership in Technology Award.
All finalists will be profiled in the Triangle Business Journal's Special NCTA 21 Report available on newsstands November 10, 2006. Copies of the publication will be distributed at the awards gala.
