Richard Davis - Chief Executive Officer

Richard Davis has served as the Chairman, CEO and President of Ardence, Inc., where his efforts to expand the company's software offerings led to the company’s acquisition by Citrix Systems, Inc. in January 2007. Prior to Ardence, Inc., he served as president and CEO at Rand McNally & Company, where he helped the 147-year-old company take advantage of new growth opportunities by overseeing the introduction of new software products and online services. At Applix, Inc., where Mr. Davis served as president of customer operations/sales, his direction and leadership helped the company increase sales from $4 million to $51 million. Mr. Davis also served as CEO of iMarket, which was acquired by Dun & Bradstreet, and as president and CEO of Nabnasset Corporation, which was acquired by Quintas Corporation.

Rashid Khan - Co-Founder & Chief Technical Officer

Rashid Khan leveraged his entrepreneurial prowess to build Ultimus into a successful global enterprise. In 1983, without any outside capital, Khan founded SINTECH, Inc., a start-up that pioneered the use of application software for mechanical testing automation. After a successful run in which he turned the company into an industry leader, he sold SINTECH, Inc. to MTS Systems Corporation. In 1994, Khan founded Ultimus, providing the start-up finances on his own to allow the company to pursue a long-term vision unencumbered by short-term financial objectives. Currently, Ultimus employs 320 people in 16 offices across the globe. Khan holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Masters in Computer Science from University of California at Berkeley, and a B.S. in Computer Science from M.I.T.

Mike Andrade - Co-Founder and Vice President of Development

Mike Andrade has nearly 20 years experience in the development of state-of-the-art Windows-based software solutions. Before co-founding Ultimus, he worked with Rashid Khan at both SINTECH and MTS Systems Corporation. At Ultimus, Andrade has been instrumental in developing seven increasingly powerful versions of the award-winning Ultimus BPM Suite as well as the company's latest innovation, Adaptive Discovery™ technology. Currently, Andrade manages the Ultimus Software Development Team and serves as a liaison between software developers, the Quality Assurance team, and product marketing.

Anne Huemme - Chief Financial Officer

Anne Huemme brings to Ultimus extensive financial management experience, having built a solid record of achievements for a number of privately and publicly held companies. Most recently, she served as CFO at Ardence, Inc., where she planned and managed the company’s corporate finances, including financial reporting and planning, investor relations and information technology. She has also held CFO positions at Optical Solutions, Inc., Café Odyssey, Inc. and Rare Hospitality International, Inc. Earlier, Ms. Huemme served as a vice president at Prudential-Bache Securities and as a division director of asset development at Pizza Hut, Inc. Ms. Huemme earned an M.B.A from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University and a B.A. in Economics from Duke University.

Rick Thompson - Chief Marketing Officer

Prior to Ultimus, Rick Thompson has been Chief Marketing Officer for Global Knowledge, the world’s largest independent IT training & software company, and has led worldwide marketing operations for IBM’s PC and IBM Direct businesses. He has entrepreneurial experience leading sales, marketing and business development at a software start-up for Flashpoint Technology. Mr. Thompson began his career leading several of Procter & Gamble’s major consumer brands including the Tide Detergent business.

Karl Freiheit - Vice President & Managing Director of Ultimus GmbH

Prior to joining Ultimus, Karl Freiheit served 12 years in the German Army during which he managed numerous large military IT projects. Following his tour of duty, Freiheit led consulting projects for CompuNet, now part of General Electric, after which he served as the managing director of i-Media Consulting GmbH. At i-Media he was responsible for making the company a premier consulting and service provider in Germany. Effective January 1, 2001, i-Media became Ultimus GmbH, and Freiheit was named Ultimus' vice president and managing director for European operations. Currently he is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the European office, including the expansion the company's technical support team and the building of a powerful professional services group. Freiheit holds an MBA from The Graduate School of Business Administration Zurich, and a Master of Computer Science from the University of Armed Forces Munich.

Ned Smith - Vice President APAC

Ned Smith joined Ultimus with over 15 years of sales and business development experience in the Asia Pacific Region, (APAC). He has held positions with ENOVIA Corp., (Vice President Business Development, APAC, for ENOVIA and SMARTEAM brands), Commerce One (Director of Business Development, APAC), Nasan Group, Inc. (VP of Business Development, Japan and Korea), International Data Corporation (Regional Manager of the International Research Center, APAC). Ned is also an Advisor to and member of ECC, Japan, (Electronic Commerce Consortium), whose members are Japanese companies seeking guidance and understanding in cutting-edge technology solutions. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Minnesota and Konan University in Kobe, Japan.
 

Board Members

Richard Holcomb

Richard Holcomb is the CEO of StrikeIron and has 20 years of experience in the technology industry. He is widely respected as a software industry leader and visionary. Mr. Holcomb is a serial entrepreneur in the Research Triangle Park area and prior to founding StrikeIron in 2002 he served as the Interim CEO of GadgetSpace, a wireless technology company, and oversaw its successful acquisition by Inphonic in 2001. He was a founder of HAHT Commerce in 1995, a major e-commerce application provider, and served as HAHT's first CEO and Chairman. Prior to HAHT, he was a founder of Q+E Software in 1986, a supplier of client-server database access technology, and served as that company's CEO, president, and chairman from inception to its acquisition by Intersolv in 1994.

Mr. Holcomb is an active venture investor in several technology companies. He also serves on the corporate boards of several public and private technology companies including Neon Systems, ChannelAdvisor, IITS, and Ultimus. Mr. Holcomb has served on several public advisory boards including the NCSU Graduate School Board of Advisors, the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technology Association (NCEITA), the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), NCSU Engineering Entrepreneur’s Program Advisory Board, and is a former appointed member of the North Carolina Information Resource Management Commission (IRMC).

During his career, Mr. Holcomb has won several awards including the 1993 Ernst and Young Technology Entrepreneur of the Year for North Carolina and the 1996 Business Leader Top Gun Entrepreneur of the Year. Mr. Holcomb received a B.S. from the University of South Carolina and an M.S. in computer science from North Carolina State University.

Michael Pehl (Partner, Advent International)

Michael Pehl is a seasoned software entrepreneur, assists Advent in sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities in the enterprise software and services sector. He is also involved on the boards and in the daily operations of Advent portfolio companies, having worked closely with Aspen Technology, RedPrairie, Demantra, Open Service, PowerSteering and Ultimus to help leverage their potential.

Pehl has more than 20 years of experience forming, managing and successfully exiting information technology companies. Prior to working with Advent, he was president and COO of Razorfish Inc., which he joined in 1999 following the merger of Razorfish and iCube. Pehl was chairman and CEO of i-Cube from 1996 to 1999 and successfully took the company public in 1998. Prior to i-Cube, he founded and spearheaded International Consulting Solutions (ICS), an SAP implementation and business process consultancy, which he sold to Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group. Pehl was also one of a team of four that established SAP America.

In 1994, Pehl received the Entrepreneur of the Year award, sponsored by Ernst & Young, Merrill Lynch and Inc. Magazine, in recognition for his business achievements.
